Pervert Pictures is a Leeds-based film club that screens provocative films semi-monthly and is run voluntarily by a single person. It is part of a growing number of film clubs, community cinemas, and freelance film curators who believe in the power of film exhibition outside the mainstream.

 

Pervert Pictures began as a way for controversial films to be taken out of their sensationalized context and into an open-minded and inclusive space for discussion and appreciation. Screenings begin with a short introduction that contextualizes the film and poses questions for a contemporary audience. Some screenings also have accompanying programme notes with further details and writing about the films.

 

Perversion means different things to different people but the films are intended to be united by their ability to examine taboos and challenge our moral sensibilities. Through these gatherings, Pervert Pictures aims to create a space to both celebrate and scrutinize perversion in all its forms.​
